Harvey, LA
The Harvey community, located on the Westbank of the Mississippi River near New Orleans, is prone to flooding caused by hurricane tidal surges. As recently as 2005, the Harvey Canal overtopped its banks flooding nearby businesses and residents. This project provides storm surge protection to the east bank of the Harvey.
From the Boomtown Casino to the Hero Pumping Station and includes approximately 8,000 linear feet of concrete T-walls floodwalls and seven steel swing floodgates. The client is the U.S. Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District.
Specific tasks in this project include:
T-wall design (up to 23’ height) along the Harvey Canal including foundation and structural design,
Detailed construction phasing for the Boomtown Casino Area,
Design of large steel swing floodgates,
Drainage design between Harvey Canal and the T-wall.
Utility penetrations through the proposed walls,
Coordination with fabrication yards and other industrial business to determine optimum wall placement, location and size of floodgates and required utility relocations,
Coordination with West Jefferson Levee District, Union Pacific Railroad and facility and property owners, and
Preparation of Design Documentation Reports and Contract Plans and Specifications including Right-of-Way drawings and Engineering During Construction.
CONSTRUCTION COST: $70 million estimated.
