Storm Proofing & Additional Pumps at Drainage Pump Station No. 5

Location: Metairie, LA

Project Description:

LH&J was tasked by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to perform all surveying, architectural services and engineering designs for storm proofing the existing masonry structure and the addition of two new drainage pumps, each with a capacity of 300 CFS (134,650 Gallons Per Minute).

Hoey's Canal Bypass

Location:  Metairie, LA

Project Description:

This project was constructed to improve the hydraulic efficiency of the Jefferson Parish Drainage system by diverting storm drainage flows to the Monticello Canal and Pump Station No. 6. LH&J prepared conceptual hydraulic studies of various alternatives and performed the engineering, design and construction observation of the selected option to construct a 25 feet wide by 5 feet deep pile supported concrete flume with paced side slopes

Palmetto Street Bridge

Location: Metairie, LA

Project Description:

As part of widening and deepening the 17th Street Canal to carry 10,400 cfs, it was necessary to extend the Palmetto Avenue Bridge by 40 feet and to span the canal with only a single center pier to reduce flow restrictions in the canal. The new bridge is framed in structural steel with concrete deck and rails. The bridge carries two lanes of traffic and a walkway.

17th Street Drainage Canal

Location: Metairie, LA

Project Description:

This $25 Million project expanded the hydraulic capacity of the 17th to 10,500 Cubic Feet per Second (CFS) by widening and deepening the canal for a distance of approximately 4,300 feet. LH&J designed special new foundations cantilevered over the new canal wall for Louisiana Power & Light Company transmission line poles; new bridges over Palmetto Street and Northline; reconstruction of Orpheum Street; and relocation of water, sewerage, power, and telephone lines.

Weiner Creek Drainage Improvements

Location: East Baton Rouge Parish, LA

Project Description:

LH&J performed surveys and prepared Right-of-Way Drawings, Plans and Specifications and Construction Cost Estimates for this drainage improvement project that extended over two miles and required both Concrete Composite U-Sections and Canal Lining and Side Slope Paving Sections to conform to the available Right-of-Way.
